3M Clinpro 5000 is a prescription-strength fluoride toothpaste containing 1.1% sodium fluoride (5000 ppm fluoride ion). It is used for daily home care in patients with elevated cavity risk: dry mouth, exposed root surfaces, orthodontic appliances, recurrent decay around restorations, or anyone whose dentist recommends a stronger fluoride than what is available over the counter.

What makes Clinpro 5000 distinctive is its functionalized tri-calcium phosphate (fTCP) ingredient. fTCP keeps the calcium and phosphate from interacting with the fluoride in the tube, but releases them onto the tooth surface during brushing — supporting remineralization while the fluoride does its work.

Use once daily as directed by your dentist (twice daily may be appropriate per Dr. Saeidi) a pea-sized amount in place of regular toothpaste. After brushing, spit but do not rinse, and avoid eating or drinking for 30 minutes so the fluoride is absorbed onto the tooth surfaces rather than swallowed.

Available in two flavors: Bubble Gum and Spearmint.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Clinpro 5000 and regular toothpaste?

Regular over-the-counter toothpaste contains around 1450 ppm fluoride. Clinpro 5000 is 5000 ppm — 3.4 times the strength — and is FDA-classified as prescription. It is used for adults with high cavity risk, dry mouth, exposed root surfaces, or orthodontic appliances.

Can I use Clinpro 5000 every day?

Yes. For better results, Use once daily as directed by your dentist (twice daily may be appropriate per Dr. Saeidi)and avoid eating or drinking for 30 minutes afterward to allow the fluoride to be absorbed onto tooth surfaces and not be ingested unnecessarily.

Is Clinpro 5000 better than CariFree Pro Gel 5000?

Both are 5000 ppm fluoride.

  • Flavors: ProGel comes in Mint and Citrus (Citrus is great for dry-mouth patients who can't tolerate mint). Clinpro comes in Mint and Bubble Gum.
  • Texture: ProGel is more gel-like; Clinpro has a regular OTC-toothpaste texture.
  • Chemistry: ProGel adds elevated pH and nano-hydroxyapatite for additional remineralization support; Clinpro's distinctive ingredient is functionalized tri-calcium phosphate (fTCP).

Pick Clinpro for a no-frills prescription-strength fluoride if you can tolerate mint or bubble gum; pick ProGel for the elevated-pH chemistry and gel texture, or for the citrus option in dry mouth.

Do I need a prescription?

Yes — 5000 ppm fluoride toothpaste is FDA-classified as prescription. Soothing Dental's team reviews Rx eligibility through a brief telehealth screen — a complimentary Rx review is included.
