Dry mouth, also known as xerostomia, is a common condition that can lead to a range of uncomfortable and potentially serious oral health problems. When the mouth lacks sufficient saliva, it can become dry and uncomfortable, leading to mouth sores, irritated gums and soft tissue, and an increased risk of tooth decay. Dry mouth can also cause bad breath and make it difficult to speak or swallow comfortably.

Many medications (such as anti-depressants, anti-histamines, antihypertensives, and antipsychotics), long-term CPAP use for sleep apnea, mouth breathing, Sjögren's disease, head & neck cancer treatment, medical marijuana use, uncontrolled diabetes, and neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, or ALS can all reduce saliva production and bring on xerostomia.

Aquoral is a lipid-based oral spray for dry mouth that is prescription-strength. It uses Oxidized Glycerol Triesters (OGT) to form a protective lipid layer that coats the soft tissue in the mouth. The OGT is produced through a controlled oxidation of corn oil — a patented technology exclusive to Aquoral.

Aquoral prevents moisture loss and provides sustained relief for up to 4–6 hours. Like applying lotion to dry skin, the relief builds over time as the tissue gradually improves with continued use. Because it is lipid-based rather than water-based, it remains in the mouth longer than typical water-based rinses, giving longer-lasting relief. The flavor is mild and palatable.

Each order contains two 10 mL spray canisters. Shake gently before use. Apply one dose (2 sprays) into the mouth 3 to 4 times per day, and spread the product onto inflamed or dry areas of the mouth with the tongue. The pump may need priming for first use. Together, the two bottles can last up to 6 months depending on frequency of use.

By moistening the mouth, Aquoral helps with chewing, swallowing, and speaking. Because the delivery is via small portable sprays, it can be carried anywhere and applied easily.

Read the package insert carefully before use. Avoid contact with eyes; flush with water if accidental eye contact occurs. Do not use Aquoral if you have a known allergy to any of its ingredients (oxidized glycerol triesters, silicon dioxide, aspartame, artificial flavoring).

Frequently Asked Questions

Aquoral vs SalivaMAX — which works better for me?

Both products work for xerostomia. SalivaMAX is generally better-suited for severe dry mouth (e.g., radiation-induced xerostomia after head & neck cancer treatment). They can also be used together because they have different properties: Aquoral coats the surfaces of the mouth and gives a slippery, well-lubricated feel; SalivaMAX coats and remineralizes tooth surfaces when swished thoroughly, helping reduce decay risk in dry-mouth patients. A common combined regimen is SalivaMAX first, then Aquoral to lock in the moisture.

Do I need a prescription?

Yes. Aquoral is FDA-classified as a prescription oral spray. Soothing Dental's team can review your eligibility through a brief telehealth screen — a complimentary Rx review is included with your order.

How long does one bottle last?

Each order contains two 10 mL spray bottles. At a typical 6–8 sprays per day, the two-bottle pack lasts approximately six months.
